POSTMODERN INTERTEXTUALITY IN A COLLECTION OF STORIES "NOVE BEOGRADSKE PRICE" BY MILORAD PAVIĆ

Summary

The work aims at presenting the function of an introduction of another text into a literary work. The text would function either as a reparate fragment or as a literary allusion. As a subject is very broad, the intertextual relationships in this work have been limited to mythic and legendary themes only. Among all the types of transformations such as renarration, transposition of a myth or a legend, reinterpretation plays the most significiant role in the works of the Serbian proze-writer. For Pavić it is a certain pattern by means of which he expresses the idea of repetitive human fate. The presence of mythic and legendary motifs affects the construction of the stories. It makes the characters depsychologized and moves the focus onto the plot. This feature is intensified by the introduction of an unincidental incident category, which makes Pavić's stories closer to popular literature. It is also strersed by the fact that the myths and legends have been taken out of their axiological context, so they lose their original meaning and become only an element of play, an intellectual game with the reader.
