UKRAINIAN STUDIES IN CRACOW. THE FIRST POST-WAR QUINQUENNIUM (1991 1995)

Summary

In a study under the above title there is presented the actual in the middle of the last decade of the 20th century condition of a part of the Polish and, at the same time, Cracovian Slavistic studies. This very part, for which Ruthenia Ukraine (with its history, culture, religious life, language, literature and folklore) has been the object of research and all academic and organizational activities, didactics and teaching.

The starting point of this survey, that has both described and estimated, was the assumption that what we are faced with at present is neither only nor quite a result of the above mentioned five year long existence of the university branch of studies of a distinctive Ukrainian profile and the endeavours in the field of research and promotion (the latter, surely enough, had not started earlier than in 1991 in the chronological order of institutional and organizational solutions) but, is a result of some definite antecedent, endeavours and projects and achievements continued since the end of the 19th century, that is a process or a system of initiatives, efforts and ventures of the local Slavistic circle over the entire century.

The author has focused his attention particularly on those links in the process that took place during 50 years after the WWII and on the apogeum reached at the end of the 70ties, especially during the 10 year long period between years 1980/81 and 1989/90.

These chronological frames are supplied with suitable data: personal data, characteristics of the academic, organizational and popularizing projects, ascertainment of the actual condition of didactics and teacher-training, the data on publications and specialistic periodicals.
