Tatiana Dubyanskaya is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Indology, Institute of Oriental Studies, Jagiellonian University, Kraków. She has BA and MA degrees in Indology from the Department of Indian Philology, Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University (in 1996 and 1998, respectively), and a PhD from the same institution. Her dissertation titled The Genesis and Development of the Hindi Novel in the Late 19th-Early 20th Centuries was submitted and defended in June 2008. This dissertation gives a detailed account of the first decades of the Hindi novel, combining literary history with theoretical observations on Indian prose. This research-work, which covers the writings of Shrinivasdas, Devakinandan Khatri and other writers of the period, is concluded by a chapter dedicated to the early novels of Premchand, thus showing the evolution of the genre and literary technique in Hindi prose.
In 1998—2009 worked as an Ad-Hoc lecturer, Guest lecturer and, from 2002 to 2008, as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Indian Philology, Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University and at the Institute of Oriental Cultures, Russian State University for the Her experience as an instructor of Hindi and lecturer on Indian literature goes back to 1998, when she joined her home institution as a Guest Lecturer; from 2002 to 2008 she held a full lectureship at the MSU and a Guest Lectureship at the Russian State University for the Humanities, teaching various aspects of Hindi, lecturing, supervising students’ annual research-work etc. Being involved in academic research in the field of Indian literature and cultural history of the 19th and 20th centuries, she has, to her credit, several research-projects, publications and fieldwork, accomplished during her frequent visits to India.
Apart from the history of Hindi literature, her academic interests envelope literary culture in Urdu and Bengali languages, history of South-Asian literature in English, post-colonial studies, eco-criticism. During her tenure at Jagiellonian University of Krakow (since October 2011), she has been teaching several courses for undergraduate and MA-level students, such as The History of Hindi Literature, Bengali Literature, Urdu Literature, Indian English Literature, Teaching Hindi through Film.
